Portland Japanese Garden

The Portland Japanese Garden offers beautiful sights and a relaxing atmosphere. The garden is open from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm during the summer and the adult ticket price is $19.95 per person. Guided tours are offered with general admission or membership and are led by our enthusiastic, trained volunteer guides. Tours are a fantastic approach to learning more about and appreciating the garden areas on your first or twentieth visit. Groups of 15 or more people can save money by purchasing tickets to the Garden without having to schedule a guided tour. These groups must make at least a week's notice to receive the discounted price.

Tours take place outside in the rain or shine, so you will need to dress appropriately. The tours last approximately one hour and you will meet your tour guide in the Tateuchi Courtyard at the “Tour Starts Here” sign in front of the Ellie M. Hill Bonsai Terrace. Each tour starts right on time. Latecomers will forfeit their tour reservations. Please allow yourself enough time to park and enter the Garden. Arriving 30 minutes prior to your tour is always a good idea.

The Japanese Garden in Portland, Oregon's historic Washington Park, is located directly above the International Rose Test Garden at 611 SW Kingston Avenue near Portland City Hall. A shuttle for transportation is available for guests.

The Garden is a hidden gem in Portland, Oregon's famous Washington Park, overlooking the city and providing a peaceful, urban sanctuary for locals and visitors alike. The Japanese Tea House, which dates from 1963 and has an area of 12 acres with eight distinct garden designs, contains a genuine Japanese Tea House, meandering streams, private pathways, and a stunning view of Mt. Hood. This is a location to put worldly thoughts and concerns on hold and perceive oneself as a tiny but essential role in the universe.

His Excellency Nobuo Matsunaga, the former Ambassador of Japan to the United States, remarked that Portland Japanese Garden was "the most beautiful and authentic Japanese garden in the world outside of Japan." It is absolutely worth the visit!
